Why is my printer printing blank pages?

A blank sheet can start with a blank document, a job-setting problem or an output problem. Work through these comparisons before choosing a maintenance procedure.

1. Inspect the preview

Confirm that the preview actually shows the content you expect and that the selected page range includes it. Check that you selected the intended physical printer rather than a PDF destination. If the preview is blank, try a different file or the printer test tool.

2. Print another document

Use a simple document from a different application. If that works, investigate the original file or application. If both produce blank paper, continue with a test made by the printer itself.

3. Compare a printer-generated page

Follow the manual for your exact model to print a status or diagnostic report. A blank report produced by the printer is a different result from a blank browser job. HP’s blank-page troubleshooting also uses a test page to direct the next steps. See HP’s blank-page guidance.

4. Check recent changes and supply messages

If the problem began after installing a consumable, revisit the manufacturer’s installation steps, including any packaging that must be removed. Check messages on the printer. The correct procedure depends on the cartridge and model; avoid dismantling parts based on a generic checklist.

If the page remains blank

Use the manufacturer’s model-specific support process and record which tests failed. Do not run repeated cleaning cycles without following that guidance. If content appears but is merely pale, use the faded-print guide instead.
